Bev Grant, director of the Brooklyn Women’s Chorus, has been selected to receive an HONORARY BAXten ARTS AND ARTISTS IN PROGRESS AWARD. These awards, now in their sixth year, have been designed to honor individuals in the arts who have revealed and transformed our creative world. By instigating and enduring change the have deepened the definition of their field and paved the way for others.

Bev is a local resident -cultural activist, singer/songwriter – founder and Director Brooklyn Women’s Chorus. She is also cultural director for the Northeast Regional University Association of Labor Educators Summer School for Union women, and recorded four albums. She has done all this, maintaining her deep love and commitment to her community – has lived in Park Slope for over 30 years, raising two daughters and is now a grandmother of two. Bev believes that any woman can sing – and established the Brooklyn Women’s Chorus to do that. The group has weekly rehearsals at The Brooklyn Ethical Culture Society and has resulted in a creative explosion.

The BAXten arts and artists in progress awards are unique. There are awards for people in arts education, awards for performing artists, awards for people who are highly visible and “famous”. The BAXten awards are for people who do the real work, make a real difference, create change, pave the way for others.
